Three Bearcats Compete at Blue Chip Fall BrawlPosted:
The Bearcat’s had three wrestlers compete in the 2013 Blue Chip Fall Brawl. This tournament draws wrestlers from across the nation. Last year the Bearcats had two placers at this tournament: Kalen Mazenkowski (2nd) and Trey Schlender (3rd).
Junior Damon Rodriguez competed at 126 pounds. In his opening match Rodriguez recorded a fall in just 0:36 seconds against Keaton Sander from Kansas. In quarterfinal action Damon fell to eventual tournament champion Kaz Onoo from Iowa. Rodriguez also dropped his next bout in the consolation bracket.
Senior Dante Rodriguez claimed 3rd place at 132 pounds. Dante won his opening bout before losing by narrow margin to eventual tournament runner up Clay Stine from Missouri. Rodriguez rallied in the consolation bracket with three straight falls and two decisions to finish 7 – 1 on the day claiming third place.
Senior James Chamberlain competed in the 160 pound weight class. James lost his opening bout by decision before rebounding with a win against Patrick Haase from Kansas. Chamberlain was eliminate from the tournament after losing his next match up.
The next preseason action will be the Blue Gold Tournament and Clinic hosted at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on October 26th.
