The JV Bearcats did extremely well this weekend at Lincoln placing 17 individual wrestlers and finishing the day with 176 team points just behind Lincoln East who scored 188.5
Kaden Bonner (126) went undefeated for the day took home first place dominating all of his competition. Bonner won by a tech fall over Jacob Odell of Lincoln East, fall over Bennet Crande from Bellevue West, fall over teammate Brandon Gomez, and a major decision over teammate Collin Taubenheim. Brecken White (138 A) won his bracket as well going 3-1 picking up 2 falls and a 7-2 decision over Jose Hinz of Lincoln Southeast in the semifinals. One of the most impressive runs for the day was shown by 145 Carter Abels. Abels won his bracket going 4-0 for the day. Abels picked up two major decisions and won in a dominant fashion in the semifinals against Bellvue West’ Isaiah Loud by the way of a tech fall. Abels then went on to win the 145 bracket by defeating Dominick Moser of Lincoln East by an 8-4 decision. Leontae McDowell placed first at 152A bracket. McDowell went 2-0 for the day with a semifinal fall and a close 5-4 decision in the finals over Ian Mendoza of Lincoln Southeast. Matt Oliphant at 160 also went undefeated for the day going 4-0. Oliphant put together a great string of wins in dominating fashion picking up two falls and two 7-1 decisions. Caden Johnson finished the day on top going undefeated and winning all of his matches by the way of falls. Johnson had a great day and wins his second consecutive tournament.
Ben Crocker (106) placed 2nd going 3-1 for the day and picking up a fall over Sam Penn of Columbus. Collin Taubenheim placed 2nd going 3-1 for the day picking up three falls along the way. Tyler Ritchie (138) placed 2nd going 3-1 on the day. Ritchie picked up three falls along the way to his third-place finish for the day. Bronson Amend placed 2nd going 3-1 for the day only to lose to teammate Matt Oliphant in the championship match. Alex Hunt (182) placed 2nd on the day going 3-1 on the day. Hunt picked up three falls before falling to Noah Sprieck of Lincoln East in the championship match.
Josh Pierson placed third at 152 4-1 on the day. Pierson battled through a first round loss to win the rest of his matches. Pierson picked up two falls and a 7-0 decision. In the consolation semis against teammate, Isaiah Medina Pierson picked up the fall to advance him to the 3rd place match. At 285 Peter Kruetzer had a great day battling back from a first-round loss and finishing the day undefeated. Kruetzer picked up three falls on his way to the 3rd place match in which he defeated Lavilay of Lincoln North star in the second period by way of a fall.
Brock Broweleit (126) placed 4th winning a tough overtime match in his first match of the day over Collin Miigerl of Lincoln East. Broweleit also padded the stats picking up two more pins along the way. Kayden Smith (138) had a great day of wrestling placing fourth. Smith picked up three falls and a close 10-8 decision over Norfolk’s Jordan Cardone Kientz in the Consolation Semi’s round. 138 A placed Miguel Guerrero at 4th. Guerrero went 2-2 for the day. Also in the 138 A bracket, Kristian Eiklor placed 2nd going 2-1 on the day.
The JV Bearcats have a busy week ahead of them. The JV-1 and JV-2 will be competing at Axtell on Tuesday, and 9 Freshman will be competing in Grand Island. On Friday, the JV reserves will be at Ravenna. To finish up a busy week the JV-1 and JV-2 will be competing at Kearney Catholic Duals on Saturday.
