Kearney Klash Tournament Kicks Off Start to SeasonPosted:
The Kearney High Wrestling team hosted their 7th annual Kearney Klash Takedown Tournament this past Saturday. The tournament featured nearly 150 wrestlers from the surrounding area. The Bearcats crowned eight champions and had six wrestlers finish as runner-up in their respective divisions.
Nick Sutton, Carter Abels, Brayden Smith, Kaden Bonner, Gauge Mcbride, Colten Kowalek, Gus Franzen, and Preston Walker all were tournament champions. Finishing as runner-up were Ethan Lawrence, Brenton Tobaben, Riley Johnson, Rylie Steele, Tyson Cepel, and Caden Johnson. Kearney had 22 wrestlers compete in this tournament to kick off the upcoming high school season.
In addition to the Kearney Klash success, Freshman Archer Heelan finished as the runner-up in the 109-pound division at Monster Mash Nationals in Denver, Colorado. He finished the day with a 6-1 record recording three falls along the way.
The Bearcat wrestlers start conditioning this upcoming week and will start the official season the following Monday, November 12th. Kearney High will start regular season competition on December 1st at home with the annual Kearney High Invitational.
