Kearney Junior Varsity Wins Franklin InvitationalPosted:
The Bearcats JV Blue and Gold team made their first appearance at Franklin Invitational this weekend. The tournament featured 15 teams from Nebraska and Kansas. The Bearcats Blue team held off a fast approaching Oberlin Red Devils team to win the invitational with a team score of 205 to the second place of 179.5. The Kearney Gold team finished 8th with a team score of 91.
Brothers Matt Ross at 106 and Josh Ross at 113 both wrestled their ways into the finals to wrestle against both ranked opponents only to come up short and both place 2nd. Ashton Arrants once again wrestled some extremely tough competition at 126 wrestling a state placer from Oberlin in the semi finals to put him into the championship match in which he lost is first match of the year to Mack James from Franklin who came into the tournament 15-0.At 138, Zane Hamaker wrestled a nearly flawless tournament and was the Bearcats only champion for the day defeating James Fuller by a decision of 9-1. At 152, Hudson Snider had a great day as well by going 4-1 for the day and capturing the 3rd place bronze medal. Leo Palomo wrestled his way to the 170 finals and claiming the silver 2nd place medal by defeating two opponents before falling to an Oberlin opponent in his final match for the day.
On the Kearney Gold Salvidor Aguire wrestled some stiff competition at 106 and found himself going 3-1 and taking 3rd place by defeating Casey Miller of Souther Valley by fall. Parker James strung together a very impressive tournament and going 4-1 for day with his only loss being to James Fuller of Red Cloud en route to his 138 pound third place finish. Josh Cline earned his first medal of his career by going 3-1 for day and claiming the bronze medal in the 170 weight class.
The Bearcats JV team will be in action next Friday at the SEM in Sumner January 17 with the tournament beginning at 1:00 p.m.
