Kearney High Wins 4th Straight Home InvitationalPosted:
Kearney High crowned 6 individual champions to win their home invitational for the 4th year in a row. The Bearcats outscored runner-up Lincoln East 200 to 169.5 to claim victory over a very talented field.
Gage Ferguson (113 lbs), Phillip Moomey (126 lbs), Nick James (138 lbs), Teontae Wilson (145 lbs) Jud Kuchera (152 lbs), and Lee Herrington (HWT) all claimed individual championships. Nick James defeated 2x state placer Adam Kinnaman from Lincoln East in a semifinal match as well as State Champion Connor Laux from Hastings in the championship final. James was named co-outstanding wrestler for the tournament.
Other Bearcat placers were Dyllan Ritchie (106 lbs), Gauge McBride (132 lbs), Gus Franzen (160 lbs), Tyler Tracy (170 lbs), Steven Berumen (182 lbs), Dominic Tavis (195 lbs) and Conner Brown (220 lbs).
“We really battled today,” said coach Ty Swarm “there were some great teams here today, I am proud of our effort and the way we competed together”.
The Bearcats are back in action this coming Friday and Saturday at the Council Bluffs Classic. This tournament features some the best wrestling teams from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota.
