The Junior Varsity Bearcats finish second place in the 13 field competition at the Northeast JV tournament scoring 176.5 points just out of reach of tournament champions from Lincoln East with 181 points. The Bearcats had six individual champions on the day.
This team is something special. They compete extremely hard and battle through all positions. They are relentless and work their tails off. Each week I see more and more improvement on all levels.”-Coach Clark
Ben Crocker earned the wrestler of the week award going undefeated for the day and just dominating all other competitors. Crocker went 3-0 on the day with two major decisions and a tech fall early in the 2nd period. Ethan Lawrence placed 1st as well going 4-0 for the day and picking up two falls and tow decisions as well. In the 132 A bracket, Rian Green went 2-0 picking up both of his wins by the way of a fall. Green took home the Gold as well. At 152, Sophomore, Jakob Ransdell took home the reserve wrestler of the week honors and placed 1st in the 145 B bracket picking up three impressive falls and going 3-0 on the day. At 195, Bronson Amend went 3-0 on the day and picked up two falls before tech falling Nate Leininger of Waverly in the finals. Heavy Weight Caden Johnson also took home the gold going undefeated and pinning his way through the tournament going 3-0 on the day.
Other Bearcats placing were 106 Flavia Nagatani taking 3rd place, 113 Perry Swarm placing 3rd, Gavin Goodner placed 4th on the day as well. At 126 Cole Schorer put together a very impressive day battling his way into the finals where he went up against Westin Sherlock of Lincoln East. Schoer ended up placing second and bringing the silver home but not to be overlooked by the impressive day that he put together. “This is the best tournament that I have seen Cole wrestle in. He put together a string of matches that were very impressive. I have high expectations for Cole this season. I was extremely impressed with him on the day.”-Coach Clark
Ethan Kowalek placed 4th at 132, 145 Nick Sutton placed 4th, 182 Riley Johnson placed 4th, Tanner Houser 195 placed 3rd, and D.J. Hollingsworth placed 4th on the day.
Brandon Moore 285, finished the day out going 2-1 on the day before falling to teammate Caden Johnson in the finals. Moore finished up the day as the runner up and bringing the silver home. “What a difference a year makes in this kid. He is straight up getting after kids. He finally found his feet and his learning leverage. Beans is getting better and better. I can’t wait to get in the room and work with him.” -Coach Mattfeld
The JV Bearcats have a busy week coming up. The JV 1 and JV 2 squad will be competing in Axtell on Tuesday and the reserve team will be battling it out up in Ravenna on Friday before the team goes on Christmas break.
