Junior Varsity takes 11 of 13 Weight Classes at Boone CentralPosted:
The Bearcat JV team was back in action this weekend at the Boone Central Invitational in Albion Nebraska. The Bearcats competed against some great competition and came out victorious claiming 11 of the 13 brackets’ top spots in a round robin format.
Salvidor Aguire and Matt Ross both in the 106 lb. weight class finished in the top two with Aguire taking the first place medal home and finishing the day 4-0. At 113, Jackson Yaw finished second with his only loss to Kris Tucker from Ashland/Greendwood. Josh Ross claimed the top spot by pinning both opponents. At 120, Johnnie McCann once again claimed the first place spot by picking up three pins and a decision to go 4-0 for the day. Hunter Willis at 120 went 2-2 for the day and picked up major decision and a pin the claim the third place spot on the podium. At a 132 lbs. Bryce Bottorf displayed an amazing day of wrestling by pinning all three of his opponents all in the first period en route to be on the top of the podium holding the gold medal. The 138 lbs weight class was stacked with Kearney talent claiming the gold, silver, and bronze at the end of the day. Zane Hamaker once again became victorious and won the weight class while Parker James claimed second, followed by LeDaniel Brown with the bronze. The 145 lb. weight class was won by Freshman Trey Grube of Kearney by finishing the day with all of his matches resulting in pins and going 4-0 for the day with wins over David City, Ashland/Greenwood, O’Neill, and Pierce.
Hudson Snider at 152 once again claimed the top spot and finished the day 4-0. Hudson displayed an impressive ambition towards competition and domination and pinned 3 of his opponents with one pin in only :06 seconds and tech falling his other opponent 16-0. Cody Renken continues to medal at each event and claimed to third place finish by going 2-2 for the day and picking up two pins against Colton Bauer of Pierce and Zeb O’Bryan of O’Neill. Drake Wilkerson and Alexsei Tanory both picked up gold medals in two different brackets at 160. Wilkerson finished the day by going 2-0 and pinning both opponents. Tanory also went 2-0 for the day to claim the gold and pinned both opponents. Freshman Avery Carpenter won his bracket at 170 and finished off the day with an impressive 3-0 record for the day and pinned all three of his opponents for the day with the highlight of his day coming in his :11 pin against Austin Wickett of Pierce. Josh Cline picked up the second place finish at 170 and finished the day at 2-1 and with his only loss coming against teammate Avery Carpenter. At the 195 lb. weight class, Bret Schamp finished second going 2-1 and tallied up two pins before falling to Casey Garcia of Neligh/Oakdale. The final two wrestlers for Kearney, Izzy Bautista and Jacob Ellingson both walked away with the two top spots. Ellingson claimed the top spot and finished 3-0 for the day while teammate Bautista ended up in a 3 way tie for second.
The Bearcats freshman will be in action this Thursday, February 6th at the Freshman GNAC Tournament at Hastings at 5:00pm. The Bearcats JV will be back in action this Saturday, February 8 at the GICC invite in Grand Island with wrestling starting at 9:00 a.m.
