Junior Varsity Finishes Season at Grand Island NW InvitePosted:
The Bearcats JV traveled to Grand Island Northwest for the their final competition of the year on Monday. The Bearcats reigned 11 champions, 4 second place finishers, and 9 third place finishers.
At 106, Salvador Aguirre finished 3rd and went 2-1 for day, and Matt Ross picked up the gold going undefeated for day. At a 113 Josh Ross placed first and went 3-0 for day and Jackson Yaw placed 3rd going 2-1 for the day. At the 120 lb. weight class, the Bearcats produced a 1st place winner at the hands of Johnnie McCann going 3-0 for the day and two 3rd place winners with Hunter Willis going 1-2 for the day and Devon Altwine going 1-2 to finish the day. Ashton Arrants finished off his season by placing first and going 3-0 for the day and capping off his incredible season with a 26-3 record. Also at the 126 lb. weight class, Ryan Troshynski place 3rd going 1-2 for the day and Andrew Dubowsky placed 4th for the day. At the 132 lb. weight class, Bryce Bottorf finished in the the second place spot going 2-1 for the day, Cesar Alvarado finished 3rd going 1-2, with Detrick Wilkerson topping the 132 weight class off with a 1st place finish and claiming the spot with style and pinning all three opponents.
Three wrestlers competed at the 138 lb. weight class with all three Bearcat wrestlers earning a first place finish. Zane Hamaker picked up three pins to claim the top spot followed by Parker James and LeDaniel Brown also winning all three of their matches with pins and claiming the top spot and taking home the gold. At a 145, Trey Grube finished second place with his only loss being to Drew Smith of North Platte in a tough nosed battle. Hudson Snider claimed the 1st place spot going 3-0 for the day and picked up 2 pins and a decision to finish up the day at the 152 weight class. Adrian Martin placed 2nd and went 2-1 for the day with his only loss being to Zach Ashley of Holdrege. Drake Wilkerson Placed 3rd for the day and picked up a pin before dropping his next two matches and going 1-2 for the day. At 170, Josh Cline picked up two major decisions and claimed the top spot by defeating Martin Romero of Lexington and Liam Dickie of Norfolk. At 182, freshman Leo Palamo placed first and went 2-0 for the day and defeated Senior Nathan Meier of Norfolk and Eric Ortiz of GISH.
Izzy Bautista finished the day going 2-1 and claiming the third place finish. Izzy picked up two decisions over Juan Alvirez of Lexington and Luke Ferguson of Gothenburg. Jackson Murphy finished his freshman season of wrestling off with second period pin over GISH’s Allen Svoboda. Jackson finished fourth overall for the day. Jacob Ellingson finished off the Bearcats JV season at 285. Ellingson placed second for the day went 2-1 with his only loss to Cameron Dickie of Norfolk.
The Bearcats JV season has been a successful and rewarding season with many of the wrestlers on this years squad continuing to move up in the rankings and find a spot on the varsity level next season.
