Junior Varsity and Freshman Dominate at KHS InvitePosted:
The Kearney High Bearcats kicked off the season with the annual Kearney High Invite. The Bearcats traditionally have outstanding numbers in the wrestling room with this year being no different in having over 80 wrestlers hitting the mat this weekend. The Bearcats competed extremely well placing in the top two in 39 out of 45 brackets with 25 of those being 1st place. This years JV team has great depth and a lot of talent stacked 3 to 4 deep at each weight class. They are going to be a tough team to beat this year.
This weeks wrestlers of the week were Freshman Gavyn Bober and Hal Moomey who won their respective weight classes and wrestled up from the freshman division to the JV division where there was some tough competition. Bober went undefeated for the weekend pinning two of his three opponents to claim first place. Hal Moomey completed his day undefeated as well going 3-0 in the JV division. JV wrestlers of the week included Jackson Yaw and Dalton Hellman. Jackson strung together an impressive day by going 3-0. Yaw’s final match against Hastings, Brady Chase was one of the most exciting matches of the day. Yaw earned an escape with on 2 seconds left in the third period and put together a series of sit outs and standups to overcome the match and become victorious by a decision of 4-3. Hellman dominated his competition and pinned two of his 3 opponents for the day. Last year Hellman fought through injury and worked extremely hard through the offseason to prepare himself for this years season. He has shown that through hard work, success will come.
The Bearcats will be hosting the JV Kearney High Dual Tournament next weekend starting at 9 a.m., December 13.
