Four Bearcats Cap Off Busy Summer at Junior Duals


The Bearcat Wrestling Team capped off a busy month with four wrestlers competing at USA Junior Freestyle and Greco National Duals in Tulsa, OK. Phillip Moomey, Nick James, Teontae Wilson & Lee Herrington all went down to Tulsa, OK wrestling for Team Nebraska.

In one of the toughest dual tournaments in the country, Phillip finished up the Greco Tournament 8-0 finishing as Nebraska’s only undefeated wrestler in Greco. Nick finished with a 4-2 record while defeating multiple Fargo All-Americans. Teontae finished with a 4-4 record, while Lee finished with a 4-3 record picking up 2 wins against nationally rated wrestlers! In the Freestyle tournament, Phillip went 6-2, Nick went 4-4, Teontae 3-1 and Lee 4-4. All four wrestlers will head to Fargo, ND July 14th-22nd to wrestle at USA Freestyle & Greco Nationals.

Iron Sharpens Iron & UNK Team Camp

Many other Bearcat wrestlers were also on the mat this past month. The Bearcats kicked off their summer wrestling at the Gering Team Camp. They then followed it up taking 31 wrestlers to Dubuque, IA where they competed in a 4-day team camp that featured David Taylor, Gabe Dean, Zane Retherford, & Isaiah Martinez. The Bearcats took two teams to this camp and finished with a 14-4 record. They finished up the month at the UNK Gold Team Camp where they had 33 wrestlers take the mat with two teams. Kearney Black finished 3rd in the Gold Bracket and Kearney Blue finished 4th in the Silver. Tyson Cepel also made a trip across the country to Flordia where he competed at Disney Duals for Team Nebraska.
