Busy Week For The Bearcats


This was the first busy week of the offseason for the Bearcats. They had wrestlers competing in Des Moines, Kearney, & overseas in Estonia.

Phillip Moomey has spent the last week traveling and wrestling in Finland, Poland & Estonia as part of his two-week “World Wrestling Tour.” This weekend he competed in the Tallinn Open in Estonia. This tournament featured over 1700 wrestlers from over 20 countries. Phillip placed 3rd in Greco and 2nd in Freestyle going 11-2 over the two days. He will spend the rest of the week in Estonia at camps and exploring Estonia.

Tyson Cepel traveled to Des Moines as part of the 9th-10th Grade AAU National Team representing Nebraska. Tyson went 2-1 picking up two first period falls.

Twelve Bearcats competed at the Midwest Classic Nationals in Kearney. The Bearcats finished with three champions, Gauge McBride, Teontae Wilson, & Lee Herrington. Gauge finished 5-0 with 4 bonus point wins. Teontae went 4-0 with 3 pins and wins over multiple state medalists. Lee went 3-0 picking up 3 pins along the way. Also, wrestling was Colten Kowalek (2nd), Jagger Sell, Carter Abels (5th), Ben Soria, Matt Oliphant (7th), Jud Kurchera (8th), Steven Berumen (3rd) & Sean Jackson (2nd).

This was a great start to the offseason for the bearcats!
