Bearcats Win Road DualPosted:
The Bearcat wrestlers competed in their only road dual of the season in North Platte Thursday evening. This dual featured nine junior varsity match ups followed by a head to head varsity dual between the Bulldogs and the Bearcats.
The Junior Varsity was able to take 7 of 9 matchups to open the wrestling action. Kearney picked up wins from Zane Hamaker, Trey Grube, Hunter Willis, Johnny McCann, Reece Nicol, Ashton Arrants, Izzy Bautista.
In varsity action the Bearcats started the night off receiving a forfeit at 132 pounds to undefeated Dante Rodriguez. North Platte chose to move wrestlers up weight classes to challenge Kearney’s middleweights. At 138 pounds Trevar Bigelow defeated Dylan Peterson by a 4-1 decision. North Platte picked up their first win at 145 pounds with a 3-1 decision victory for Colton Thompson over Derek Berumen. Kearney’s Mason Merritt picked up the action with a pin over Austin Matthews at 152 pounds. The Bulldogs then rebounded with Shawn Roblee picking up a pin over James Chamberlain at 160 pounds.
The Bulldogs forfeited at both the 170 pound and 195 pound weight classes. North Platte also picked up a decision victory at 182 pounds with Bradan Hegen defeating Leo Palamo by decision. Kearney then got back on the winning track with a major decision at 220 pounds from Aaron Griffith. Gabe Ledesma followed this with an exciting come from behind pin over Alex Morales at Heavyweight.
Gabe Crocker kept the team points rolling by pinning Brandon Flanders at 106 pounds. Josh Ross kept this trend going with a first period fall over Alex Guerra at 113 pounds. Jordan Bober moved to 120 pounds to defeat David Mata of North Platte by decision. In the final match up of the night Damon Rodriguez defeated Aaron Houser of North Platte 5-0.
The final score of the dual was 55 to 13 in favor of the Bearcats. Kearney is back in action at the John Higgins Lexington Invitational on Saturday, January 25th.
