The Kearney High Wrestling team rallied 17 of 18 wins in junior varsity competition followed by 12 of 14 wins in varsity match ups to top the Bulldog wrestling team 63-8.
North Platte was open at 106 and 195 pounds, surrendering 12 points to the Bearcats at those weight classes in varsity competition.
With the match starting at 145, the Bulldogs held a brief four-point lead after Dylan Petersen’s victory over Parker James. Trevar Bigelow (25-3) pinned Drew Smith (12-10) in 2:42 at 152 pounds, Trey Grube (13-5) pinned Jayden Songster (16-5) in 5:10 at 160 pounds to give Kearney an early lead. Braiden Ruffin added another major decision of Tyler Tracy at 170 pounds to bring North Platte with 4 points of the Bearcats 12-8. However, from this point on the Bearcats wouldn’t look back
Leo Palamo added a major decision at 182 pounds, Sean Jackson (12-14) pinned Bradley Swanson (16-9) in 5:09 at 220 pounds and Lee Herrington (11-5) provided Kearney with an 11-1 major decision over Bryan Halsted (10-9) at 285 pounds.
Freshman Phillip Moomey (23-6), of Kearney, defeated Branton Flanders (10-2) in a technical fall after going up 18-1.
Jordan Bober (20-2) pinned Jayson Scott (11-14) in 1:44 at 120, Gabe Crocker (16-12) defeated Dom Tridle (14-17) 10-3 at 126, Nick James (28-2) pinned Diego Diaz (9-7) in 4:38 at 132 and Ashton Arrants (21-7) defeated David Mata (21-6) 3-1 at 138.
Kearney High Junior Varsity is back in action Saturday at the John Higgins Invitational in Lexington. Varsity competition resumes Tuesday with Kearney hosting Grand Island for their last home dual of the season.
