Bearcats Win 2nd Straight Midwest DualsPosted:
The Bearcats claimed the championship at the Midwest Duals for the second consecutive year. Kearney went 5-0 in duals finishing with a victory over Gretna in the championship finals. Gretna had previously defeated Kearney in the finals of the Flatwater Fracas in December.
In the opening round Kearney defeated Colby, Kansas who is currently ranked 5th in their state classification. The Bearcats won 39-19 with Phillip Moomey (113lbs), Gabe Crocker (126lbs), Nick James (132lbs), and Ashton Arrants (138lbs) all picking up pins. In round two Kearney defeated Sedgwick County 57-12. Twelve total wins helped drive the Bearcats to a dominant victory. Round three was another lopsided win for Kearney. The Bearcats defeated Augusta, Kansas 62-6 again winning 12 of 14 weight classes. In the final round of pool wrestling Kearney defeated Bennington, Nebraska 41-21. Parker James (145lbs), Trevar Bigelow (152lbs), and Andy Mason (195lbs) all picked up pins in this dual.
In the championship dual Kearney took on the Dragons from Gretna, Nebraska. Both teams were undefeated in their duals for the day. Gretna opened with a win at 138 pounds but the Bearcats responded by winning the next two weight classes at 145lbs (James) and 152lbs (Bigelow). Gretna rebounded picking up wins at the 160 and 182 pound weight classes. Tyler Tracy added another crucial victory at 170 pounds with a 11-5 decision of Cade Mueller of Gretna. Kearney added decision victories from Andy Mason at 195 pounds and Lee Herrington at heavyweight. Gretna picked up a decision at 220 pounds as well as 106 pounds. Both Gretna wrestlers were ranked 1st in the state at these weight classes. The Bearcats finished in dominating fashion. Jordan Bober picked up decision victory at 1120 pounds as did Nick James at 132 pounds. Gabe Crocker sealed the dual with a pin over Lance Jarrett from Gretna. Jarrett had defeated Crocker in their previous matchup.
The Bearcats are back in action this Thursday when they dual North Platte on the road.
