Bearcats Qualify 12 For State ChampionshipsPosted:
Kearney High School finished as the A1 district runner up behind champion Millard South High School by 20 points. The Bearcats had 6 finalists, 2 champions, and qualified 12 wrestlers for the NSAA State Championships.
Nick James (132lbs) and Lee Herrington (HWT) were district champions. James defeated Thomas Cahill from Papillion LaVista 2-0 to win his weight bracket. Herrington defeated Elijiah Zoucha from Millard West by fall in the championship final. Herrington pinned both of his opponents in district competition.
Four wrestlers finished as district runner ups. Ashton Arrants (138lbs) lost in the championship final to top ranked Isaac Deloa from Millard South 8-2. Trevar Bigelow (152lbs) finished second to Connor Olin from Millard South 8-1. Leo Palomo was defeated by Gavyn Angerman from Millard South 10-2 at 182 pounds. Andy Mason finished as the runner up at 195 pounds with a hard fought loss against Zack Sorich from Millard West 5-1.
Phillip Moomey (113lbs), Gabe Crocker (126lbs), Parker James (145lbs), Trey Grube (160lbs), and Sean Jackson (220lbs) all finished in 3rd place. Tyler Tracy finished in 4th place to qualify for the state tournament at 170lbs.
The Bearcats are back in action at the State Championships in Omaha starting Thursday at 4:00pm. Kearney High is currently ranked 2nd behind Millard South High School.
