The Kearney High wrestling team defeated the Columbus Discoverers in front of an electrifying home crowd Thursday evening. The Bearcats used the power of pin points to win by a margin of 46 -18.
The dual started at 113 pounds with sophomore Jordan Bober picking up a pin in the final period after a close battle with Kobe Paczosa of Columbus. Isaac Stansbury followed at 120 pounds with a decision victory of number 4 rated Chris Baily. Damon and Dante Rodriguez put on a show for the home crowd by picking up pins against their opponents bringing the team score to 21-0 for the Bearcats. Derek Berumen defeated Tristan Marking at 145 pounds by major decision followed by a 0:39 second pin by Mason Merrit at 152 pounds.
Kearney dropped the next three matches at 160, 170, and 182 pounds which put Columbus on the board 31-9. Senior Jake Culey reignited the team with a pin over Chris Samayoa at 195 pounds. Aaron Griffith (220lbs) and Gabe Ledesma (HWT) both continued their winning ways. Griffith picked up a decision over Chase Orender while Ledesma pinned Cesar Marino in the first period. The dual finished with a battle of ranked wrestlers at 106 pounds. Fourth ranked Carter Woehlik of Columbus came back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat number 3 ranked Gabe Crocker of Kearney 7-4. The final dual school was 46-18.
