Bearcats Dominate Home InvitationalPosted:
Kearney High School opened their 2016-2017 wrestling season in a dominating fashion. The Bearcats had 8 individual champions and placed 13 of 14 weight classes in the top 3. This event featured four of the top seven teams in class A as well as the Hastings High School who is currently ranked 7th in class B.
This may be the most individual championships we have ever won at the Kearney High Invite. This is impressive considering the quality of talent amongst competition here. Brayden Smith, Phillip Moomey, Nick James, Tyson Cepel, Teontae Wilson, Trey Grube, Sean Jackson, and Lee Herrington all captured individual championships for the Bearcats.
“I was very impressed with some of our first year varsity wrestlers. Half of our varsity line up was wrestled their first varsity matches today. Three of these guys won the tournament. This was great to see and is attributed to their hard work this off season.” Coach Swarm
Senior Reece Nicol and Junior Jud Kuchera both finished in second place in their respective weight classes. Rylee Steele, Colten Kowalek, and Izzy Bautista all finished in third place.
