In their only home dual of the season, Kearney High School put on a show for a packed student section wearing singlets. The atmosphere was electric as the Bearcats competed side by side with the Loper wrestling team as they battled Lindenwood University. Kearney only lost two matches and outscored North Platte 66-6.
“It’s crazy nobody else has this. Wrestling doesn’t get a lot of fans. … This school (KHS) is awesome. It’s nerve racking, but it’s amazing.”Phillip Moomey – (So. – 120)
“Our guys love this atmosphere. We matched up well with North Platte. … They had some opens, so the dual scores pretty wide.”Ty Swarm
The dual opened with an exciting pin from Phillip Moomey at 120 pounds. This was followed with six more victories for the Bearcats including four by fall. Senior Reece Nicol battled North Platte’s returning state champion Braiden Ruffin at 170 pounds. Nicol finished down 8-3 but kept the excitement going with a great effort.
After three forfeits Kearney picked up pins at both heavyweight and 106 pounds. North Platte did rebound to win the last match of the night at 113 pounds with Jayson Scott narrowly defeating Rylie Steele from Kearney 10-8.
