Bearcats crown two champions at home invitational

The Kearney High varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams saw their first action of the 2012-2013 season at KHS invite. The varsity team competed well and finished the day in 5th place. Hunter Bamford (126lbs) and Isaac Stansbury (113lbs) both claimed individual championships along with Jamison Oertle finishing as the runner up at 152lbs. Seniors Quinton Ross and Trey Schlender both were able to wrestle back strong after semifinal losses to claim third place in their respective weight classes. Sophmore Mason Merritt (145lbs) and freshman Trevar Bigelow(132 lbs) both also finished in fourth place. Other tournament placers were Zane Hamaker (138lbs), Tim Dubry (170lbs), and Taylor Towery (285lbs). The most outstanding wrestler of the tournament award went to Hunter Bamford. The Bearcats will host the East / West dual classic this Saturday, December 8th.

The junior varsity and freshman teams competed against a field of competition at the KHS invite. There were 47 brackets in the tournament and KHS was able to crown 14 individual champions along with 26 total medal winners. Junior varsity and freshman teams will be back in action on December 11th with the Junior varsity traveling to the Axtell Invitational and the freshman team traveling to the Grand Island invitational.
