Bearcats Crown Five Champions at Home InvitationalPosted:
Kearney High claimed five individual championships and two runner-up finishes at their home invitational. The team finished in third place, just 10 points out of a championship.
Rylie Steele claimed the 126 pound championship with two decision victories. Gage Ferguson (145 pounds) and Gauge McBride (152 pounds) both went 4 – 0 to claim their tournament championships. Carter Abels picked up two first period pins to win the 170 pound bracket. Brayden Smith was named the most outstanding wrestler of the tournament after winning the 138 pound bracket with a 4-0 record.
Ben Crocker finished in second place at 113 pounds. Crocker was 3-1 on the day with 3 pins. Peter Kreutzer went 2-1 and finished as the runner-up at heavyweight. Josh Pierson (182 pounds) and Dario Rodriguez (220 pounds) both finished in third place.
“It was a good opening tournament for our wrestlers. I think we learned a good amount about or team this weekend and we look forward to getting back in the practice room and working on some things this week” said head wrestling coach Ty Swarm.
The Bearcats are back in action at the Council Bluffs Classic which is a two day event that features 41 teams from 5 different states. Wrestling kicks off on Friday starting at 1pm.
