The KHS wrestlers picked up a dual win on the road against Columbus on January 10th by a score of 66 to 12. The Junior varsity was also in action and the bearcat wrestlers were able to dominate their competition by winning 12 out of 14 weight classes.

Varsity competition started at 120 with Scott Bauer picking up a first period fall against Kyle Gaston from Columbus. Hunter Bamford (126lbs), Austin Marshall (132lbs) and Mason Merritt (138lbs) all followed with first period falls of their own which gave Kearney an early lead of 24 to 0. The Bearcats Derek Beruman lost by fall at 145 pounds. Kearney rebounded by picking up pins from Kalen Mazankowski (152lbs), Cameron Schlender (160lbs), and Lee Langenberg (170lbs). Schlender lost by decision to Columbus wrestler Ryan Kubr at 182 pounds. The Bearcats received forfeits at 195lbs and heavyweight while picking up a pin at 220 pounds from Quinton Ross to establish 60 to 9 dual lead. Columbus picked up their final win by decision at 106 pounds and Kearney finished the dual with a first period fall from Isaac Stansbury at 113 pounds. The dual score was 66 to 9 for another Bearcat dual victory.

The junior varsity and varsity combined for a total of 23 wins out of 28 matches on the night in Columbus. The Bearcats are in action again on Friday, January 11th. The junior varsity will compete at the Summner – Eddyville – Miller Invite and the varsity will compete in the East / West dual challenge in Lexington, NE.
