Bearcats post win over Vikings at HomePosted:
The fourth ranked Kearney High wrestling team picked up a big dual win against the number three ranked Omaha North Vikings. This dual featured many competitive matches between two top ranked schools.
The dual started at 182lbs and the Bearcats rode the momentum of 3 wins from the upper weights to jump out to an early 18 to 6 lead after the heavyweight bout. Kearney picked up big pins from seniors Quinton Ross (220lbs) and Taylor Towery (HWT).
Omaha North forfieted both the 106lbs and 113lbs weight classes to give KHS a 30 to 6 margin going into the 120lbs weight class. Freshman Ashton Arrants shined in his varsity wrestling debut to win a hard fought battle with a late 3rd period takendown and back points against his Omaha North opponent. This was followed by pins by both Hunter Bamford (126lbs) and Austin Marshall (132lbs).
Kearney recieved another forfeit at the 138lbs weight class and followed this with a decision victory by junior Derek Beruman at a 145lbs. Kalen Mazankowski (152lbs) looked fantastic in his first match back for the Bearcats. He picked up a large lead and put his opponent away with a pin prior to the end of the first period. The Bearcats dropped the final two bouts to finish the dual with a team score of 60 – 17.
Kearney high varsity wrestling is back in action this weekend at the Ogallala duals. This starts at 8:30am mountain standard time.
