Kearney High School won the Flatwater Fracas for the first time in 11 years. The Bearcats have been in the championship final the last three years but have come out on the losing end. This year, Kearney overcame two top-ranked teams to bring home the 28 teams dual championship.
Kearney High battled through a talented pool of 39 teams to finished as the tournament runner-up at the Council Bluffs Classic. This tournament featured teams from 5 different states in including 14 teams ranked in the top 10 of their state. Three of these teams are currently ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Kearney High crowned 6 individual champions to win their home invitational for the 4th year in a row. The Bearcats outscored runner-up Lincoln East 200 to 169.5 to claim victory over a very talented field.
This weekend 11 Bearcat wrestlers took to the mat to kick off the preseason at Conflict at Carver in Iowa City, IA. This was most of the guys first time wrestling since summer camps got over. Wrestling at Carver were Archer Heelan, Gage Ferguson, Junior Ganoa, Rylie Steele, Phillip Moomey, Kaden Bonner, Colton Kowalek, Carter Ables, Teontae Wilson, Jud Kuchera & Steven Berumen.
Four Bearcat wrestlers spent the last 10 days in Fargo, ND wrestling at the USA Cadet & Junior Freestyle/Greco Nationals. Fargo is commonly known as the nations toughest offseason tournament. Phillip Moomey, Nick James, Teontae Wilson, & Lee Herrington all competed for Team Nebraska.
The Bearcat Wrestling Team capped off a busy month with four wrestlers competing at USA Junior Freestyle and Greco National Duals in Tulsa, OK. Phillip Moomey, Nick James, Teontae Wilson & Lee Herrington all went down to Tulsa, OK wrestling for Team Nebraska.
Twenty Nine wrestlers were on the mats for the Bearcats this past weekend. Twenty Seven wrestlers were at the Gering Team Camp where they got 7 duals in. Phillip Moomey was in Akron, OH wrestling at UWW Cadet Nationals and Lee Herrington was in Dodge City, KS at USA Southern Plains Regionals.
This past Saturday 10 Bearcat wrestlers competed for the Golden Eagles Wrestling Club at the Nebraska USA State Freestyle & Greco Tournament. Between the two styles of wrestling, we finished with 9 Champions and 4 Runner-Ups. Phillip Moomey won 3 brackets himself placing 1st in the Cadet Freestyle, Cadet Greco & Junior Freestyle. Phillip beat 3 different State Champions on the day. Also placing 1st were incoming freshmen Archer Heelen & Gage Ferguson. Archer & Gage competed in the Schoolboy division picking up 1st in both Freestyle & Greco. Archer finished off a successful spring by earning NEUSA’s Triple Crown award for becoming a USA State Champion in Folkstyle, Freestyle & Greco. Also placing 1st in both styles was junior Lee Herrington.
