The Bearcats finished in second place out of the 30 teams competing in the Flatwater Fracas held in Grand Island. The two day tournament featured 6 pools of 5 teams. Kearney High won their pool and advanced to the championship match only to fall short against Hastings.
The Bearcats number one JV team was in action Saturday at the Kearney Catholic Duals. Kearney was the only JV team competing with class C and D varsity teams. The team stepped up against this tough competition and ending up placing 3rd out of 12 teams! This was the highest that Kearney has ever placed at this meet.
The JV wrestlers were back in action this weekend, hosting the invite on Saturday. The Bearcats were two deep at each weight class giving them the opportunity to compete with a Kearney 1 team and a Kearney 2 team. Joining the competition was North Platte, Hastings, Lincoln North Star, and Lexington.
The Council Bluffs Classic wrestling tournament was loaded with talent this year. Kearney High School battled a tough field of 32 teams to finish 6th at the end of the two day tournament. This tournament featured 5 different states as well as the number one overall rated wrestler in the country from Apple Valley Minnesota.
It has been 8 years since the Kearney High wrestling team has won its home invite. The year the Bearcat wrestlers reclaimed the title. Kearney topped the Islanders of Grand Island by 9 points to win the 2014 Kearney High Invitational championship. Grand Island has won the tournament title the previous 8 seasons.
The Kearney High Bearcats kicked off the season with the annual Kearney High Invite. The Bearcats traditionally have outstanding numbers in the wrestling room with this year being no different in having over 80 wrestlers hitting the mat this weekend.
The Kearney High wrestling team finished third at the NSAA State Dual Championships hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Bearcats opened action with a win over Papillion LaVista before falling to eventual champion Grand Island in the semifinals. Kearney High finished with a victory over last years dual championship team Omaha Burke to finish in third place.
Kearney High School finished fourth at the NSAA State Championships. The Bearcats ended the tournament with two individual state champions, a state runner up, and a 6th place finisher. Champion Omaha North edged runner up Millard South 156 to 155.5. Kearney finished fourth with 102 points behind Grand Island who had 127 points.
The Kearney Wrestling Team claimed their 3rd straight district championship on Saturday at Millard South High School. The Bearcats placed 13 of their 14 wrestlers in the top 4 which in turn qualifies them for the state tournament. Kearney battled the host school Millard South all day to win the district team championship with 220 pts to 215 pts.
