The Kearney High wrestling team went 6-1 in dual competition to finish second out of 32 teams at the Grand Island Flatwater Fracas. The two day tournament features 4 team pool competition the first day followed by placing pool competition the second day.
The Bearcat wrestlers staked claim to the first annual Council Bluffs Classic tournament championship. This tournament featured 28 teams from 5 different states. Kearney finished with 541.5 points ahead of runner up Grand Island who had 479.5 points.
The Bearcat wrestling team brought plenty of excitement to their home invitational on Saturday. Kearney High challenged the defending state champions Grand Island all day only to fall short of the team title by 5 points.
The Rodriguez boys continued their tour of preseason tournaments while competing at the Monster Match Nationals in Denver, Colorado. This tournament is another national tournament hosted on an annual basis.
The Bearcat’s had three wrestlers compete in the 2013 Blue Chip Fall Brawl. This tournament draws wrestlers from across the nation. Last year the Bearcats had two placers at this tournament: Kalen Mazenkowski (2nd) and Trey Schlender (3rd).
The University of Nebraska at Kearney and Kearney High wrestling teams joined to host the Blue Gold Tournament and Clinic on Saturday, October 26th. This event featured wrestlers from preschool through High School.
The Kearney High Wrestling team qualified for the State Dual Championships that will be held on February 23rd at The University of Nebraska at Kearney. The Class A competition will feature the top 8 teams in the State. The Bearcats are seeded third and will face Omaha North first round.
The Kearney High wrestling team claimed the A-4 District Championship out scoring a tough Creighton Prep team 195 to 158.5. This marks the second A-4 District Championship for the Bearcats in as many years. Kearney will send 10 wrestlers to the 2012-2013 Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament. The Bearcats finished the day with six district champions, two runner-ups, and two third place finishers.
