#2 Bearcats Top #4 Columbus 47-20Posted:
Columbus High School wrestling celebrated their last home dual at their gymnasium hosting the #2 ranked Bearcats from Kearney High School. On a night celebrating the past Discoverer State Champions the Bearcats ended up on top of the Columbus wrestlers 47-20.
Columbus jumped out to an early lead at the hands of two time state champion Colton Wolfe picking up a quick pin over Sean Jackson of Kearney at 195 pounds. Wyatt Olcott then followed up with a decision victory over Izzy Bautista at 220 pounds. This put Columbus into the lead 9-0.
The heavyweight bout featured the top two ranked wrestlers in Class A. Top ranked Lee Herrington defeated second ranked Cyrus Marshall 5-2 to give the Bearcats their first points of the night. Brayden Smith quickly followed with a pin, bring the dual to a 9-9 tie.
After dropping the next bout at 113 pounds, Kearney took the next five
weight classes either by pin or forfeit putting them into a comfortable 39 – 15 lead in the dual. Columbus then picked up victories at 152 and 170 pounds by decision. Kearney won by decision at 160 pounds with a Trey Grube decision victory and Tyler Tracy finished off the night with a fall at 182 pounds.

Kearney High wrestlers are off from tournament competition until next weekend when they travel to Garden City, Kansas for a the Rocky Welton Invitational. This is a 32 team, multiple state two day tournament.
