#2 Bearcats Defeat #3 Columbus 35-25Posted:
Kearney wrestlers defeated the 3rd ranked Columbus wrestling team 35 – 25 in front of an electric crowd. This dual was wrestled side by side with the University of Nebraska at Kearney Loper wrestling team taking on the Broncos from University of Central Oklahoma.
The dual started at 220 pounds with Kearney’s Sean Jackson picking up a pin to jump start the team to an early 6-0 lead. Columbus then picked up victories in the next two weight classes (Heavyweight and 106lbs). Phillip Moomey then provided another pin at 113 pounds to bring the Bearcats back in front 13-6.
Columbus then picked up two decision victories at 120lbs and 126lbs. The Bearcats then were able to pick up major decisions from both Nick and Parker James at 132lbs and 145lbs. Seniors Ashton Arrants and Trevar Bigelow also provide pins at 138lbs and 152lbs. This brought the score to 32-12.
Columbus won 3 of the next 4 weight classes to narrow the final score to 35-25. Tyler Tracy picked up a win at 170 pounds with an overtime victory against Tyler Nelson from Columbus.
JV Duals vs Columbus:
The Bearcats JV wrestlers competed against Columbus this past Thursday competing in 17 matchups in which the Bearcats won the dual with a final score of 66-24. At 120 Koeby Bonner and Alex Arrants both picked up wins. 138 Johnnie McCann picked up a pin. 152 wrestlers went undefeated in Reece Nicol, Jud Kuchera, and Jackson Yaw. 160 in Steven Berumen pinned his opponent as well as 170 pounders LeDaniel Brown and Edgar Boteo. Tim Dubry picked up a major decision to end the dual for the Bearcats.
