Kearney High had 6 champions at the Gator Invitational to claim the team championship for the third year in a row. The Bearcats placed 13 of 14 wrestlers in the top 4 to accumulate 258.5 points. Kearney had seven junior varsity wrestlers entered in the tournament, 4 of which placed in the top 4 as well.
Brayden Smith, Phillip Moomey, Nick James, Teontae Wilson, Tyler Tracy, and Lee Herrington all were individual champions in their respective weight classes. Herrington defeated two ranked wrestlers in class A in both his semifinal and final matches. Brayden Smith and Nick James also defeated a class A ranked wrestler in the finals match-up at 106 pounds.

Dalen Richie, Guage McBride, Tyson Cepel, and Isaiah Stalbird all placed 3rd in their respective weight classes. Varsity wrestlers Rylie Steele and Izzy Buatista finished runners up, while Trey Grube and Sean Jackson placed 3rd. Colten Kowalek and Jud Kuchera also found the awards stand by placing 4th at 126 pounds and 152 pounds.
Kearney High wrestling is back on the mat at home this Thursday against North Platte. The Bearcats will wrestle side by side with the Lopers from UNK as they battle Lindenwood University. The Midwest duals will follow two days later. This takes place at the Health and Sports Center at the University of Nebraska at Kearney
