Bearcats Dominate Home Invitational

Kearney High School opened their 2016-2017 wrestling season in a dominating fashion. The Bearcats had 8 individual champions and placed 13 of 14 weight classes in the top 3. This event featured four of the top seven teams in class A as well as the Hastings High School who is currently ranked 7th in class B.

JV Kicks Off The Season At Home

The Kearney High JV Bearcats opened up the season this past Saturday at their own Invite in the brand new school. The atmosphere was electric and well attended. The Bearcats finished the day with 14 champions between the beginner and advanced brackets. The Bearcats also finished the day with 16 runner-ups between the two divisions. It was an impressive showing to the opening of the season.

Four Bearcats Test Themselves at Preseason Nationals

Four Bearcat Wrestlers capped off the offseason at USA Pre-Season Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA. Rylie Steele, Phillip Moomey, Nick James and Teonate Wilson all made the trip to this elite preseason tournament featuring over 1500 wrestlers from across the country.

10 Champs at Kearney Klash

Seventeen Kearney High wrestlers competed at the 5th annual Kearney Klash Takedown Tournament. This tournament featured teams from mainly central Nebraska.

The Bearcats claimed 10 championship brackets as well as 5 runner up finishes. Kearney combined for a team record of 35 – 9 record with many of their losses coming from their own teammates.

Bearcats Place Two at Fall Brawl

This past Saturday the Bearcats picked up right where they left off this summer competing at the Blue Chip Fall Brawl in Kansas City. Eight wrestlers took to the mats at a loaded pre-season tournament that featured brackets that had much as twenty State Medalists in one bracket.

Nick James

Varsity 12/05/2016
Nick won the 132 pound weight class and defeated a ranked opponent in the finals. James finished the day with three pins and a major decision.

Koeby Bonner

Junior Varsity 12/05/2016
Koeby won the advanced division of the Junior Varsity tournament. He pinned all three of his opponents. Two of these pins were in the first period.

Jaegger Sell

Reserve 12/05/2016
Jaegger won the first tournament of his high school wrestling career. He went 3-0 and pinned two of his opponents.
