Kearney High started making noise long before Tuesday’s dual with Grand Island began.
When it started, the Bearcats roared out of the gates. With two pins in the first three matches, second-ranked Kearney lit a fuse that resulted in a 42-13 victory over third-ranked Grand Island.

Varsity finishes 3rd in Garden City

For the second year in a row, the Kearney High wrestling team finished in 3rd place out of a 32 team pool at the 58th Rocky Welton Invitational. This invitational featured teams from 4 different states and 6 of the top 7 teams were ranked in the top 2 in their respective classes.

JV Places 4th at Boone Central

The Bearcats placed 4th out of 15 teams in teams scores and placing 11 wrestlers with 9 wrestlers receiving medals. The reserve JV Bearcats had 7 champions in the brackets on the JV side of the tournament as well.

Bearcats Win 63-8 over North Platte

The Kearney High Wrestling team rallied 17 of 18 wins in junior varsity competition followed by 12 of 14 wins in varsity match ups to top the Bulldog wrestling team 63-8.
North Platte was open at 106 and 195 pounds, surrendering 12 points to the Bearcats at those weight classes in varsity competition.

Bearcats Win 2nd Straight Midwest Duals

The Bearcats claimed the championship at the Midwest Duals for the second consecutive year. Kearney went 5-0 in duals finishing with a victory over Gretna in the championship finals. Gretna had previously defeated Kearney in the finals of the Flatwater Fracas in December.

Varsity 01/31/2016
Nick finished runner at 132 pounds in the Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City, KS. James defeated to state placers and finished 4-1 while helping the team to a 3rd place finish.

Reece Nicol

Junior Varsity 01/31/2016
Reece went 4-1 in the varsity tournament at the Boone Central invitational. Nicol finished in 3rd place at 152lbs helping the team to a 4th place finish.

Tyson Cepel

Reserve 01/31/2016
Tyson went undefeated in Junior Varsity competition at the Boone Central Invitational in Albion.
